How do I go about purchasing one of your horses?
YOU CAN EMAIL US AT INFO@MONTANAREINSOFHOPE.COM OR MESSAGE US ON FACE BOOK FOR GENERAL QUESTIONS. IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT A PARTICULAR HORSE, THEN WE LIKE TO SET UP A CALL (OR SEVERAL CALLS) WITH YOU TO MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN A HORSE AND TO ENSURE THAT IT WILL BE A GOOD FIT. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION FROM OUR WEBSITE (FIND IT UNDER THE TAB “OUR HORSES”) AND EMAIL IT TO INFO@MONTANAREINSOFHOPE.COM . JOE MISNER WILL CONTACT YOU FOR AN INTERVIEW AND DETERMINE IF YOUR APPLICATION IS APPROVED. IF YOUR APPLICATION IS APPROVED, YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT, WHICH CAN BE DONE VIA CHECK, PAYPAL, VENMO, APPLE PAY OR CASH.
I can’t decide by pictures, can you hold a horse for me
When your application has been submitted and is in the process of approval, we will not sell your horse out from under you! However, we generally do not hold horses, unless there are some unique circumstances. For example, when we are anticipating a shipment from the USFS and we have not had the opportunity to see and work with the horse, and therefore cannot answer specific questions about the horse, we will hold a horse (for a short period of time) with an approved application and a $500 non-refundable deposit. It’s always best to get your application in as soon as you can if you are serious about a particular horse. We have had very disappointed would-be owners who waited too long. We are happy to set up a video call with you to introduce you to any of the horses.
What if I put a deposit on a horse and then decide it’s not an option for me? Is it refundable
We try very hard to make sure that the horse you are purchasing is going to be a good match. We help people to be sure of their choice before committing. However, there may be unique and extenuating circumstances that we will consider on a case-by-case basis. While the deposit is non-refundable, there may be a possibility to apply the deposit to a different horse.
Are your horses for sale or adoption
Our horses are all titled, which means the ownership of the horse transfers immediately upon the sale. There is no adoption. This also means that if you decide to surrender your horse, you cannot take them to a USFS or BLM holding facility.
What can I expect from my mustang after 90 days of training
All horses progress at different rates in their training, so there are never any “guarantees”. We take our time with our horses and make sure to first develop a trusting relationship with them. We want them to learn that humans are good. Our goal for all of the horses is to have the solid foundation of catching, leading, loading, picking up all 4 feet, standing tied, ground driving, fence mounting, accepting the snaffle bit, riding in a round pen at a walk, trot, lope and ponying them around the ranch. If the horse is accepting of all that, we will then ride them around the ranch.
I’m not sure 90 days is enough training. Can I get more for my horse?
Absolutely. In fact, most of our owners opt for additional months of training, which we offer at a reduced rate.
I brought my horse home, and she doesn’t do for me what she did for you. What’s going on?
Be patient. Please give your horse time to get to know you and her new surroundings. It’s unreasonable to expect that you will immediately have the same relationship with her that her handlers at Montana Reins of Hope have had. Let her build trust with you and ease into the relationship, by taking the time to groom her and do groundwork with her, you are building that trust and getting to know each other. We encourage every owner to come to the ranch and spend time with Joe and your horse during that last month of training. This will help your horse to get to know you and it will help you to know the methods used during your horse’s training. We strongly encourage that you enroll in the Wild2Ride Academy so that you can be the best leader possible for your horse. We offer clinics, one week intensives, and 30, 60, and 90 day programs. Choose the one that is best for you.
I bought a horse from you last year and I think we need a tune up. Can I bring him in for that
Of course you can. We offer this at our reduced monthly rate and dependent on space available. You could also consider enrolling in one of our week intensives and bring your horse. We offer special week intensives for clients at a reduced rate. Check our website for availability or give Melinda or Joe a call.
I can buy a horse for $1. Why would I want to spend money to purchase one from you
Indeed, you can buy them for $1. And on any given day, you can also get one for free because of people surrendering them or trying to rehome them. This is exactly what we are trying to avoid. We believe that horses, particularly mustangs, have a better chance of staying in a forever home when they have a solid foundation. Our training is relationship-based, and we believe that taking the time to establish trust is the most important aspect in our ability to move forward with training. Your investment in your horse will pay dividends.
